Typically, grinder pump sewer force main lines are composed of HDPE plastic and are 2.5-inches to 3-inches in diameter. Each home owner purchases and installs an individual grinder pump and connects the pump’s service line onto the City-owned force main at the street right-of-way (ROW). The City owns and operates the common force main inside the ROW, while the homeowner owns and operates the service line and the grinder pump itself.
