Distribution and Collection Division
The CIty’s Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Division is hard at work repairing, maintaining, and constructing water lines for the citizens of Cumming and Forsyth County. Cumming Utilities currently has approximately 14,000 water meters in the ground and over 300 miles of water mains. We receive complaints from time to time regarding landscaping associated with repairs that our Distribution Crews have made to a leaking water line. Please be patient. The City can not repair landscaping when the ground is saturated. If you have any concerns, please call the Distribution Shop at (770) 781-2035.
The City’s new Radio Read Water Meter replacement program has been a great success. We will continue to replace water meters in our system until 100% have been converted to the radio-read type meter.
How is a water meter installed? The pictures below show the “long-side” installation process that typically takes place in a new subdivision. The City requires that a cast iron meter box and a plastic turf box with a brass ball valve cut-off (for the homeowner’s use) be installed with all new water meters. Notice the small hole in the top of the cast iron meter box. This hole is provided for the radio-read water meter’s antenna.
